The illustrations to the poems of Alisher Navoi are the finest examples of the miniature-painting of the Timurid period, which reached the highest stage of development in Khorasan and Central Asia in the 15th and in the first half of the 16th centuries. Created as illustrations to Alisher Navoi`s poems The Wonder of the Pious,Farhad and Shirin, Layli and Majnun, Seven Planets, The Wall of Iskandar and The Language of the Birds,the miniatures belong to the brush of the great Eastern painter Kamal ad-Din Behzad, founder of the Herat school of miniature-painting, and his pupils Kasim Ali, Dust Muhammad, Mirak Naqqash and Mahmud Mudhahhib.

The heroes of Navoi`s poems served as the main images for these miniatures - the brilliant works of the world art. They are notable for their social ideals, noble qualities, and optimistic spirit. The inimitable beauty of the miniatures derives from the delicate brushwork, the bright but subtle colours, multiplane composition and harmonious balance of details. Realism which underlies all Alisher Navoi`s work is characteristic of these miniatures. The miniatures are a brilliant embodiment of the aesthetic ideals and artistic genius of the Uzbek people

The selection includes the miniatures of the manuscript Khamsa of Alisher Navoi, copied in Herat in 1485 for Badiazzaman.
