COMPUTER GRAPHICS
A survey of current techniques and applications
Computer graphics is the generation and manipulation of digital images with the aid of a computer. It is the most significant advance in image-making since the invention of photo-graphy in the nineteenth century. Today, computer graphics is used all over the world. Television commercials, graphic design, engineering, medicine, astronomy, earth sciences, fine art, molecular modelling, sales presentations, film animation and special effects are just some of the uses to which the medium can be applied.
In this introduction to the subject, author John Lewell describes the new technology in language which makes the book accessible to anyone who wants or needs to understand what computer graphics can do. Previous knowledge of computing is not essential because the book offers the complete beginner a succinct explanation of the basic principles and architecture of computers.
This book offers a stimulating variety of graphics applications, even for those already convinced of the value of computers in making two-or three-dimensional images and models. With over 150 colour illustrations selected by the author from the United States, Canada, France, Britain, Japan and Brazil, Computer Graphics is an attractive and exceptionally comprehensive introduction to a spectacular new technology.
