An unprecedented and colourful depiction of a country, unknown to many, suspended between East and West but anchored in the traditions of ancient peoples (the Thracians, the Slavs, the Celts, the Goths, the Huns) and engaged in a long and difficult transition, after independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. This is a collection in which the Moldovan artists, in their 144 works, successfully move beyond stereotypes and preconceived ideas and introduce a wave of freshness, knowledge and even of globalism in an area that is still all too often occupied by nationalistic discourses, unwilling to assume autonomous visibility.

Contemporary Artists from the Republic of Moldova is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
