With a regrettable delay, I discovered this superb art album dedicated to an important painter of the 80`s generation. Very large square format but also voluminous, the album is first and foremost a typographical achievement in itself. Its creator is Georgeta Djordjevic, who together with her husband Dragan Djordjevic, dedicating herself to the promotion of contemporary Romanian art in luxury editions, have also edited art albums about Ilie Boca and Gheorghe Dican or about tradition and modernity in Romanian painting. This time, working together with the artist, the publisher achieved an exceptional tour de force. The album is not a chronological summation of Vasile Tolan`s creative stages, but an opulent excursion, sumptuous in terms of color and layout, among the series and cycles of works that marked the very coherent evolution of the painter over 30 years of activity. Trained at the Cluj painting school but finishing his studies with a doctorate at the University of Arts in Bucharest, Tolan is a leading representative of the expressionist-gestural trend not only within the 80s generation but also in the entire field of Romanian pictorialism of yesterday and today. Equally concerned with the expression of matter in its concrete resonances, but also with the free and impetuous configurative gesture in the manifestation of Dionysian or abyssal impulses, Tolan defines himself as an artist located `somewhere between raw art and abstract gesturalism`, synthesizing in his poetics exuberant numerous previous pictorial sources, melted in the magma of a strong temperament. Personal life
He was born on March 10, 1953 in Buru, Cluj county. He graduated from the Ion Andreescu Fine Arts Institute in Cluj-Napoca and the Art Academy in Bucharest. Doctor of Visual Arts, National University of Arts, Bucharest

Professional experience
In 1975-1981 Drawing teacher - Bistrita-Năsăud; and then, in 1980, the artist becomes a member of the Union of Visual Artists from Romania (UAP); in 1982-1989 the artist works as a designer - Bistrita-Năsăud; in 1990-1992 the artist becomes a Cultural Advisor at the County Culture Inspectorate - Bistrița-Năsăud in 1992-1994 President of the inter-county Branch of the Union of Visual Artists - Cluj - Bistrița- Zalau; in 1992 he became a freelancer in the field of fine arts; in 2001 and currently academic staff at the National University of Art Bucharest between 2006-2007 Member of the Operative Management of UAP in Romania
