This is, deservedly, a standard text and - despite its age (1977) remains an invaluable `one-stop` resource.

The book introduces all types of stainless steels and, in a series of speciaist-authored chapters, addresses their metallurgy, corrosion resistance, physical and mechanical properties, fabrication and design practices, and applications. Whilst there have been many developments and much new knowledge has been gained in the forty years since publication, this book is still referenced in contemporary work - demonstrating its lasting worth.

It must also be remarked that there is much industrial plant in operation today that is contemporary with this book - and thus designed on the basis of the knowledge and understanding which it contains. To operate and maintain such plant safely, it is necessary to see it from its designer`s viewpoint, as well as with the benefit of up-to-date information and insight.
