Although this book contains all of the information a beginner needs, it is aimed especially at the person whose collection has been put together from pocket change and whose interest has flagged because his collection looks like every one else`s and he doesn`t know what to do next.
As the book points out, he can continue with coins of his own country by searching for oddities, varieties and errors in modern available coins, or he can turn to older issues and collect by design type. If he widens his field of interest to just modern foreign coins, it opens up possibilities of collecting coins of more than 200 different nations and colonies. He may have to buy many of these, and in doing so, he may decide to direct his expanding collection toward coins commemorating historic events and famous people, or he may prefer to collect by topic — such as animals, ships, coats-of-arms, flowers, etc.
From a study of this book, a collector may be inspired to direct his attention to coins of the ancient Greeks and Romans, to medals and tokens, to odd-shaped coins, or to coins of crown or taler denomination and size.
If you are not a collector you will be amazed at the multitude of ways coins can be collected, and if you are an experienced collector, you will be surprised to see the number of new arrangements and ideas which Mr. Hobson suggests.
