With only a little care, a whole range of exotic, often spectacular, indoor plants may be grown by the amateur gardener. This easy-to-read, fully illustrated book provides expert advice on how to do so. Instructions on how to grow more than 150 plants are given, with special chapters devoted to orchids and cacti.
The book is divided into two parts. An introductory section contains general advice on caring for exotic plants: when to water and feed them; how to propagate them; how to keep them free of pests and disease. A chapter on building and stocking your own garden room tells how to create the ideal setting for your plants; there is also information on how to display plants to best effect, with special emphasis on grouping and the use of railing and climbing varieties.
The rest of the book consists of a selection of plants that are unusual, interesting, yet still well within the scope of the home gardener.
Flowering and foliage houseplants are grouped together in one section, cacti and other succulent plants in another and orchids in a third. For readers` convenience, all these sections are arranged alphabetically. Short instructions precede the section on succulents and the section on orchids and detail these plants` special characteristics and cultivation requirements. Every entry in the A-Z section contains a complete description of the plant, a colour photograph of it and a care chart specifying what kind of conditions and treatment it needs in order to thrive.
