Henry Denker writes popular pushbutton novels like The Director and The Kingmaker on a long rather than a large scale and this one deals with the assassination of a Supreme Court Justice by a black, Grove, a loser if not a lost cause since his deprived and brutalized childhood on. His defense is undertaken by Scott Ingram, the liberal twig of an old family tree, and an eminent superlawyer Winkler who seems to be a cross between F. Lee Bailey and Kunstler. Whereas insanity would be the easiest and surest-to-succeed plea, they proceed on the `Doctrine of Social Inevitability` which unfortunately finds him guilty on all counts -- although the case will be appealed. Documentary-styled, or rather non-styled, and if there is silence in the courtroom, it`s not a very healthy indication.
