When `The Shake Spears` broke up in mid-1968, the remaining members Chris Stone, Alan Escombe and Mick Carter founded Fynn McCool (named after Finn McCool (Fionn mac Cumhaill), a figure in Irish mythology). Mick Fowler (ex-Grapefruit) completed the first line-up. Later line-up changes included two further ex-Grapefruit members, Bob Wale and Geoff Swettenham, as well as Garth Watt-Roy, who joined East of Eden afterwards.
Fynn McCool`s only, selftitled album is now very rare and highly sought after. It was released on RCA Records without the group`s consent, based on unfinished (demo-) recordings. The tapes with the final versions of the songs got lost soon after the group split up in February 1972.
