A Novel About How the West Was Blown
A bawdy, bizarre tale of the `heroic` U.S. Marshall T. Texas LaFever, a man of murder and mayhem who desires the apparently unattainable contessa.
David (Sunset) Carson was born in Oklahoma, and reared in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, New York, Cuba, and California. He has served in the Marines and has worked as a microwave operator, oil lease man, reporter, ranch laborer, printer, clerk, salesman, truck driver, meter reader, and janitor. Carson has written for under- and aboveground publications, college newspapers, and literary magazines, and is the co-author of Magnifying Glass, a volume of poetry.
`LAMENT is first of all a very enjoyable book... It is bawdy, bizarre, satirical, Rabelaisian, iconoclastic, and zany. It is also gruesome, funny as hell. I laughed out loud as I rollicked along with his heroes of yesteryear. And when I finished, and the tale was settling in, I did not ask myself, `What did he mean by that?` The question is unnecessary as Carson has simply gutted an American myth.
`True to life, our hero, United States Marshall T. Texas LaFever, after many rapings, killings, lynchings, and various acts of mayhem, ends up where: `His interests ar e more directed toward the cupped breasts of the contessa, his brandy, his cigar, and his slowly hardening jay.` With that line you close the book feeling excited because you have finally read a good book...`
