Hasegawa Kai (February 20, 1954) is a Japanese haiku poet. Born in Kumamoto Prefecture.
He is a selector of Asahi Haiku Poetry Festival, a representative of “Kigosai”, the former head of haiku association “Koshi”, a specially-appointed professor of Tokai University`s Department of Literature and Creative Writing, and a deputy director of Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature. He is a member of the selection committee for the “Serpent Scepter Prize” (Kadokawa Cultural Promotion Foundation), “Okunohosomichi Literary Award” and “Donald Keene Grand Prize” (Soka City).
While working for a newspaper company, he also worked as a haiku poet and attracted attention with his first collection of haiku, “Koshi” (1985). His haiku style is steeped in tradition. His haiku collections include “Tenkyu” (1992) and ‘Kokuzora’ (2002), and his critique “Kochiike ni Kaeru ga Tobikondaka” (2005).
