`Milovan Markovic`s Transfigurative Works` investigate the limits of visual representation. Primarily concerned with the role of the close-up and the politics of representation involved in the production of the (in)visible human face, the artist applies the term `transfigurative` to a body of work comprising: Lipstick Portraits, Selfshaves and Text Portraits which focus on the human face. Although they are all pictures of real men and women, in contrast to conventional portraits, his works are not representational and iconic - they are trans-figurative. Markovic has exhibited at the 46th Venice Biennial, Sao Paulo Biennial and P.S.1 Museum, New York. This work includes an interview with the artist by Claudia Wahjudi.
