“A thoughtful and comprehensive analysis of Japan’s major poetic form.”
— South China Morning Post

The haiku, a compact, evocative verse form, offers direct, intuitive insights into nature and life that are at once simple and baffling. Japanese Haiku: Its Essential Nature and History introduces the subtle nature and beauty of haiku, emphasizing the form’s unique place in the realm of poetry. It covers both translated haiku and haiku written originally in English, along with an analysis of individual poems and the haiku form itself. The result is a concise, authoritative introduction to haiku that will interest and educate lovers of literature and students of Japanese culture.

DR. KENNETH YASUDA is emeritus professor of East Asian languages and cultures at Indiana University. His numerous other publications include A Pepper Pod, a collection of original haiku and translations in English; A Lacquer Box, translations of tanka; and a translation of Minase Sangin Hyakuin, the most famous collection of renga linked poetry. In 1974 Dr. Yasuda was awarded the Japanese Imperial Decoration of the Sacred Treasure, Third Order.

This is the most authoritative and concise book on Japanese haiku what it is, how it developed, and how it is practiced in both Japanese and English.

While many haiku collections are available to Western readers, few books combine both translated haiku with haiku written originally in English, along with an analysis of individual poems and of the haiku form itself. Written by a leading scholar in the field

Kenneth Yasuda was the first American to receive a doctorate in Japanese literature from Tokyo University— Japanese Haiku has been widely acclaimed.

POPUSTI, CENKANJE I SL.:

SUSEDNE ZEMLJE I INOSTRANSTVO:

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
I will send abroad. Minimum order is 20€. For your calculation, one hundred dinars roughly equals $1. PM me first on the link below for postage costs (they usually start at around 15€ for the first book and 7€ for each additional one)
