Ian Donnachie is a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor in History at the Open University in Scotland and the author of numerous works on Scottish social and economic history.

George Hewitt also teaches with the Open University and formerly lectured in Glasgow. He has published widely on Scottish history including a major study of 16th century politics and society.

Donnachie and Hewitt have collaborated on several projects, among them a history of New Lanark, the first of a Robert Owen trilogy.
