Splendid book. I love the fact that I know more about an astonishing woman that was unfamiliar to me. Latifa Atatürk is a fascinating, strong, bold woman who left her mark on Turkish history. The book also dives into Turkish society, the beginning of Atatürk `s Revolution and the emancipation of women. Ipek Calislair paints a beautiful picture of Izmir (one can tell the city holds a special place in his heart). Ankara` s beginnings as a backwater keeps you rooted and you just want to read more and more and more. I think my favorite part of the book where the small chapters dedicated to the culture and mentality of the people of Turkey during that transitional phase. The author puts a lot of accent on women and women`s rights as well as their place in society. Wonderful book that I could not put down and would recommend to anyone to have a go at it.
