`The Finns and Their Country` is a non-fiction book written by Wendy Hall, first published in 1967 by Max Parrish. An American edition was published by Paul S. Eriksson in 1968.
The book offers a comprehensive look at Finnish society, history, and culture at the time of its publication. Topics covered in the book include:
The natural environment and landscape
The people, daily life, and society
Arts and entertainment
Finnish history, from Swedish and Russian rule to independence
Political life
The economy, including farming, forestry, and industry

Wendy Hall was a journalist and author who wrote several books focusing on European countries and their cultures. The book has been used as a reference for those studying the general history of Finland.

***********

The Finns are in many ways an unusual and exceptional people. Though living in Europe, their only European relatives are the Estonians and the Hungarians; though attached by land to the east, they have always looked across the sea to the west, and built their society on western ideas and ideals. Christianity came to them from England, the law from Sweden. As yeomen farmers in a harsh climate and an unyielding land, they have developed a fierce personal independence and self-sufficiency in their struggle to wrest a livelihood from field and forest.

National independence came to them as late as 1917, after several centuries as part first of the Swedish kingdom and then of the Russian empire. In the half-century of independence, Finland has been in a continuous state of transition from an agricultural to an industrial society. Today the transition is still incomplete, but a new prosperity has come with industrialization, and townsmen are now more numerous than country dwellers. The Finns, who account for more than one-third of the world’s people living in the Arctic lands above latitude 60°, are among the world’s most prosperous nations; and Finland is the only country on Russia’s European border without a communist government.

POPUSTI, CENKANJE I SL.:

SUSEDNE ZEMLJE I INOSTRANSTVO:

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
I will send abroad. Minimum order is 20€. For your calculation, one hundred dinars roughly equals $1. PM me first on the link below for postage costs (they usually start at around 15€ for the first book and 7€ for each additional one)
