I can`t speak Chinese and I picked this book up out of mere curiosity, and yet I was blown away. The text is very easy to understand, even if English is a foreign language to me, and the book is full of interesting information and pictures. The multiple charts showing the progression of the pictographic characters were very helpful and interesting (to the point that I ended up babbling about it to my friends and showing it to them), and I even ended up memorizing some!


Another good point is that you can tell the author really loves what he`s talking about. The text is very objective, but never cold or just analitical. You can tell that the author has enthusiasm and admiration for this topic. This book made me actually excited to maybe learn more about the Chinese language in the future, which is not something I had previously considered!
