52063) The City of Pleasure , Dojna Galich Barr , Raška school Belgrade 2008 , good condition
The novel The city of Pleasure (2008) by Dojna Galich Barr, a famous American writer, is an experimental postmodernist work which is characterized by playfulness, a combination of different genres, parody and ironic rethinking of contemporary consumer society. The novel reveals the apocalyptical vision of the world through a symbolic image of Pleasantville – an imagined contemporary city with its mass consciousness, false relations and values. The City of Pleasure transforms cultural norms and moral regulations which results in a distorted inner world of a personality. Anxiety, fear, stress, terror, traumatic neuroses accompany the lives of the citizens of Pleasantville. It leads to asocial behavior, egoism, the loss of self-control, the absence of empathy, and alienation from nature. Love, dignity, honesty, traditional family
values seem to be old-fashioned and outdated. The reality affects a man, aggressively transforms his psyche and causes an inadequate irrational deviant behavior. The heroes have to go through a psychological quest. Their inner world could be changed.
