`The Kennedy Women` has to be one of the most cohesive, entertaining and informative books I`ve read about the Kennedy family for some time. Because of its size, I paced myself and enjoyed every moment. It was a well- worth- it read.
Leamer gives a uniquely chronicled life of the Kennedy women and does not sugar coat any of their lives. From Bridget the Kennedy matriarch, Rose`s early life as the Mayor of Boston`s daughter, and all the women that came after, Leamer`s style of writing is very accessible and readable. He helps the reader feel as if you were right there--down to the last detail. The houses in Hyannis Port, Chappiquidick, the assassinations, all are carefully laid out. I especially appreciated how Leamer delved into each of the Kennedy women`s lives,exposing their quirks, relationships with their cheating husbands and their unique roles in the family.
Leamer weaves in historical context and the many different settings along with myriad secondary characters such as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe. They all come alive on the page. Throughout the many decades spanning this story, the triumphs, agonies and obstacles they endured are all vividly constructed to create a turn paging chronicle.
