In it`s four star review of this CD the `Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD` says `Morton`s all-embracing mastery of the keyboard makes these solos a sublimation of everything jazz had done up to this point - the music remains utterly compelling - testament to Morton`s greatness - essential music Retrieval`s re-issue, which includes the four solos from Vocalion in 1926, is certainly our first choice. What more can we say, except that it`s an essential CD for inclusion in any jazz collection worthy of the name.
