Even given the consistently high quality of mix albums released by Stud!o K7 (including volumes by Dave Clarke, Depth Charge, Richie Hawtin, and Kevin Saunderson), AUX 88`s volume in the label`s Electro Boogie series hits some pretty high peaks. Shot through with the fast-paced, aggressive breakbeat electro-techno that AUX 88 produces (and mixes) better than almost anyone, Electro Boogie veers from future-shock electro (Dopplereffekt`s `Superior Race,` Drexciya`s `Bubble Metropolis`) to booty techno (X-Ile`s `I Wanna,` DJ Assault`s `Shake It Baby`) and still finds time to drop a few all-time classics (Underground Resistance`s `The Final Frontier,` the Unknown DJ`s `Basstronic,` DJ Good Groove`s `Rock It`). Half of the tracks -- and most of the highlights -- come from the duo`s affiliated label, Direct Beat (home to Di`jital, X-Ile, Posatronix, Microknox, DJ K1), and all but two tracks come from Detroit labels. Unlike the occasionally history-lesson feel of past volumes, this one is more than just a time capsule; it`s a living, breathing document of the thriving electro scene in Detroit.
