Guido Podrecca ( Vimercate , 5 December 1865 – Auburn , 29 April 1923 ) was an Italian politician and journalist , founder of the political satire magazine L`Asino . His father Carlo was a Garibaldian originally from Slavia Veneta , while his brother Vittorio ( 1883 - 1959 ) founded the Teatro dei Piccoli and became its impresario and director.

A contributor to humorous weeklies, where he signed with the pseudonym of «Goliardo», in 1888 he founded with Gabriele Galantara the Bolognese periodical Bononia Ridet and then L`Asino , with which he conducted anticlerical campaigns [ 2 ] [ 3 ] and denunciations of political corruption that cost him denunciations and arrests, until he emigrated to Switzerland . Returning to Italy in 1901 , from 1907 he was a municipal councilor of Rome and a deputy of the Italian Socialist Party in 1909. [ 4 ]

In favor of the Italo-Turkish war , in 1912 he was expelled from the PSI together with Leonida Bissolati , Ivanoe Bonomi , Angiolo Cabrini and nine other socialist deputies. Together with those expelled he participated in the foundation of the Italian Socialist Reformist Party .

In view of Italy`s entry into the First World War , he was a fervent interventionist .

In 1919 he left the editorial staff of L`Asino and founded the magazine Il primato artistica italiano ; in the same year he was a candidate in the political elections in the ranks of the Fasci italiani di combattimento . He was among the freemasons present on 23 March 1919 at the foundation of the Fasci italiani di combattimento , which marked the birth of fascism [ 5 ] .

He died in Auburn , New York at the age of 58. [ 6 ]
