The Superhormone Promise: Nature`s Antidote to Aging

Tvrd povez sa omotom, udžbenički format, 349 strana.

Lepo očuvana knjiga.

The best-selling authors of The Melatonin Miracle present new evidence that superhormones can control aging, arguing that DHEA and other hormones can boost the immune system, reduce body fat, maintain health, and reverse the aging process.

William Regelson, M.D. and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) are virtually synonymous. Although Dr. Regelson was not the first to study, write about, or promote DHEA, he certainly has beat the drum louder than anyone else and for good reason. DHEA - in case you haven`t heard - is the first of a new wave of therapies that will change life as we know it on this planet.

Was the writing on the wall, already, when the contract for the book The Superhormone Promise was signed last year? Yes, I would argue. While the mass market for the books on melatonin to come had not yet been tested - only Dr. Ray Sahelian`s book was out there with Regelson`s The Melatonin Miracle and Reiter`s book was yet to hit - so what was it that sealed the contract for Regelson`s book? According to the Forward to Superhormone, written by Regelson`s Melatonin Miracle co-author Walter Pierpaoli, MD, PhD:

`At the time that we were working on The Melatonin Miracle, Bill told me, with some sadness, that he feared it would be years before the public would be able to benefit from DHEA in the same way it would be benefiting from melatonin because DHEA was, at that time, available only by prescription. This is no longer the case, as DHEA has become available over the counter. I should like to think that this welcome event is due at least in small part to the heightened interest in antiaging research and the power and promise of superhormones that The Melatonin Miracle inspired.`

Life Enhancement Products was first out of the gate with a marketing plan for DHEA back in the fall of 1995. On the front page of the September issue (#14) of Life Enhancement News, under the headline MELATONIN was an article titled `The Age of DHEA`. At the end of this article on page 9 appeared a small ad for DHEA, snuggled up against an article on The Fully Informed Jury, a candle of protection against what we believed might be in store for us. In that same issue, on page 5 was An Open Letter to FDA Commissioner Kessler by Steve Fowkes warning the FDA and the DEA that `DHEA is not a drug.` So, without further ado, it wasn`t a `miracle` that DHEA came to market and that The Superhormone Promise came to be written, but the bravery (or stupidity) of Life Enhancement Products to be the first. Please take note that this current issue announces another first, the return of a tryptophan product.

All of the above is not to take away from the researchers, whose work truly did inspire us. Dr. Ward Dean and I both wrote reviews on the DHEA text book, The Biologic Role of DHEA coedited by Regelson and Kalimi, which coincidentally appeared at the same time, his in Smart Drug News and mine in The Life Extension Report, as part of a larger article on hormone therapy but essentially a review of the findings on DHEA. John Morgenthaler had been the first to offer DHEA back in the 1980s through the AIDS buyers clubs, but all the while we read the scientific papers and attended the conferences.

Back to The Superhormone Promise - this is a book you must read. It`s eminent readability, crafted no doubt by coauthor Carol Colman, makes an incredible array of information accessible, not only on DHEA but also on pregnenolone (which will come as little news to readers of our newsletter), testosterone (for men and women!), estrogen, natural progesterone, thyroid hormone, growth hormone, and melatonin. The subtitle of this fine book is Nature`s Antidote to Aging. Make no mistake: this is not hype. The second wave of life extension is just now beginning to wash up on our shores. If Dr. Regelson`s work gains the kind of audience that it deserves, there is hope for our future. This is the kind of thing for which the Nobel Prize is, or should be, awarded. Buy this book. You will not be disappointed.
