To the beautiful girl named Justine it is a degrading and inhuman condition which can be overcome by global wara war she wants Knowle to start.
Knowle has always believed that war was a futile and senseless answer to man`s problems. But under Justine`s persuasive logic he begins to hope that a shot he can fire will lead to the ultimate death of millions and be the start of a better world for the survivors.
Brian Aldiss was born in August 1925 in Norfolk. He began his working life in a bookshop, but is now Literary Editor of the Oxford Mail. In March 1966 he went to America to receive joint first prize for the best Science Fiction story published in 1965, `The Saliva Tree`.
