Today the most important aspect of exterior architectural design is color. Most buildings depend heavily on color for a distinguished and attractive appearance.
In recent years many experiments have been made with color but only a few have made valuable esthetic contributions. Architects and builders, craftsmen, artists, designers and manufacturers of building materials have been striving to find solutions which are permanently pleasing to the eye and technically sound. However, uncertainty in matters of color expression and inadequacies in material and execution have led to unsatisfactory results in a number of cases.
In the office of every architect greater efforts are now being made to exploit the possibilities of color effects in one family houses, apartments, schools, industrial and office buildings. Unfortunately there is often a lack of reliable knowledge and experienced understanding of color. What is needed are good examples of proven solutions which will point the right way.
This book is the answer. It is the first thorough review of all the techniques of treating facades with colored plaster (stucco) and paint. It covers colored plaster work, the application of finisnes to plaster and exterior finishes on wood and metal. The main part of the book is devoted to illustration+of pertinent work from the United States, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
In no previous book on architecture have so many modern buildings of all types been shown in color. The more than 300 illustrations in color are accom panied by an explanatory caption.
Whether you are looking for a reference book in design or a book which will help for a better understanding between owners and architects, contractors and technical experts this large color volume is indispensable.
