This collection of short stories contain the following stories: Unite and Conquer (1948), Special Aptitude (1951), Mewhu`s Jet (1946), Hurricane Trio (1955), The Hurkle Is a Happy Beast (1949), Thunder and Roses (1947), Bulkhead (1955), Tiny and the Monster (1947), A Way Home (1953)
Excellent set of stories originally published between 1946 and 1955 that still hold up well because they deal with human nature, which doesn`t change over the years. The stories involve jealousy, possessiveness, loneliness, conceit, humility and savantism. But there`s also humor, sardonic wit, told-ya-so, a kid going out to play on another planet, a telepathic great dane, and a hurkle kitten. What more could you ask for in an anthology? And ignore Sturgeon`s law here -- his statement that `Ninety percent of everything is crud.`
If you haven`t read anything by the writer who came up with the phrase `Live Long and Prosper,` and who came up with the idea of the `Prime Directive` (in a submitted, but unproduced, script), I recommend this collection, or the previous one, Caviar.
