A Victorian in Orbit: The Irreverent Memoirs of Sir Cedric Hardwicke

This is the only book I have been able to find either written by or about sir Cedric Hardwicke, and unfortunately, it’s not really about him. He does write briefly about his upbringing in the town of Lye, and about his two sisters and parents(his father was a doctor and wanted his only son to be one as well.)
I learnt absolutely nothing about Sir Cedric Hardwicke in this book, but I did learn a bit about George Bernard Shaw. It says nothing about his experience of working on Alfred Hitchcock`s `Suspicion` and `Rope`, or working with George Sanders in `Lured`, or working with Richard Burton in `Mr. Imperium`, or working with James Mason in `The Desert Fox:The Story of Rommel`. The book should really be called `George Bernard Shaw` by Sir Cedric Hardwicke.
But mostly he talks about the theater. This is where I learned about Herbert Beerbohm Tree and the actor-managers. And about his friendship with his mentor George Bernard Shaw. There are many fascinating stories about the latter.
He also talks a little about the movies he made but oddly enough he was not a fan of Hollywood. He much preferred theater. And because of that I learned a few things about theater history that I enjoyed reading about so reading this book was definitely worth it. However Cedric Hardwicke deserves a thorough biography written about him. There are too many celebrities of that time period who don’t have one.
