Among the hundreds of historical sites encompassed in the 22 hectares territory of Icherisheher, 4 are included in the list of world heritage monuments and 28 are listed as national heritage monuments.
The classification of Icherisherer as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 2000, the first cultural site is Azerbaijan to be classified as such, is the proof of significant universal value as a historical site and architectural complex.
Icherisheher is a town of magnificent medieval palaces and mosques, caravanserais and squares,picturesque streets and parks.
Elturan Avalov is a well-known Azerbaijan architect, artist and musican. He is an actual member of the Internation Oriental Architecture Academy, author of many books, more than 60 booklets and articles of the hstory of architecture and arts of Azerbaijan. He is famous abroad - his works are exhibited at the museums in various countries and included into private collections in Turkey, USA, UK, Israel, Norway and Spain.
