This publication shows how life within the Hochschule and outside interact in a tense and dialectic relationship characterized by both distance and closeness. Twenty five years of successful design training and education at the Hochschule für Gestaltung are both the reason for producing this book, and its content. It is a report on the aspirations and the realities, the aims and the interests, the origins and the future of the institution.
The Hochschule has enjoyed a continuity which has made it immune and resistant to fashionable trends and changes. Continuous changes to the structures of teaChing and studies, made with great care and attention, have allowed the content, models and aims to remain sound as a long-term design policy.
Design in the project of modernity deals with the development stages of a system of teaching and learning and describes the orientation of a Hochschule für Gestaltung for a valid future in times of great educational challenge.
It records an institution whose forward-looking approach has always found expression in curricular experiments and in the work with its students.
