This book is devoted to the mory of hundreds of abducted and missing persons, whose destiny rains uncertain for more than 15 years and, in particular, to the mory of those Serbs who had been victims of human organs trafficking by internationally organized criminals. To date, nobody has been found guilty of committing these odious crimes. Furthermore, the documentation on these crimes has disappeared while in the possession of the Hague Tribunal. The initial investigation on allegations of human organs trade in Kosovo and Metohija had been conducted by Swiss lawyer and Senator, Mr. Dick Marty, whose findings were endorsed by the Parliamentary Assbly of the Council of Europe. Expressing profound gratitude to Mr. Dick Marty, the publisher believes that his humane motives, sense of justice, and intellectual courage, will finally bring about the results worthy of the European civilization values. The present volume might be properly described as the result of the International Conference entitled "Consequences of NATO Aggression against the FR of Yugoslavia" convened in Belgrade from 24–26 March 2000 on the occasion of the first anniversary of the NATO armed attack on Yugoslavia. The Conference was organized by the Institute for International Politics and Economics under auspices of then Federal Ministry Foreign Affairs of FR of Yugoslavia. Experts of various profiles – in international law, international political relations, military-strategic questions, the media, ethical and economic issues – took part. All parts of the world were represented at the Conference. Upon perusal of all the presented papers it turned out that it is not possible to classify th according to the analytical criterion. A very small number of the contributions are dealing with one aspect only. The large majority are interdisciplinary, simultaneously touching upon diverse aspects – legal, political, those associated with the media, economic, social, ethical. That is the reason why the organizers opted for a chronological approach. The contributions have been arranged according to the order of their presentation at the Conference. The documents submitted to the Conference are at the end of the volume. We avail ourselves of the opportunity to express gratitude to all the participants in the Conference for taking part in its deliberations and for their cooperation during the preparatory stage of this publication. Special thanks are due for the translation work, language editing and proof-reading. We were careful to get all the presented papers published in their authentic form, making every effort to ensure authorization of the translations by the authors. The opinions expressed in the present series are of course the privilege of the authors. The publisher, for its part, reserve the responsibility for any errors and omissions in the organization and preparation of both the Conference and of the publication of its proceedings.
