`Ba Dinh hall, opposite the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the man who, thirty years ago, from this very place proclaimed to the world the birth of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, and who subsequently made it possible for Viet Nam to earn the `signal honour of defeating two big imperialisms-the French and the American`. It is here that the National Assembly, the result of the April 25, 1976, general elections, has just taken the decision to found the new reunified State: the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
The event is of historic importance. The reunification of Viet Nam on the plane of State institutions has been achieved; a decisive factor has been created with a view to reunifying the country in all other fields, beginning with the economic one. With its 50 million in-habitants, the country, now reunified, will continue to march forward toward a future of happiness and splendour, as a factor of peace in Southeast Asia.
