Great Read. Very scary stuff. Extremely well written story. Unlike much modern science fiction with phony sounding dialogue and shallow characterizations (some of the characters nothing more than ciphers), the characters in BEING have very realistic verbal exchanges and are extremely well developed. (Regarding an earlier review which said the characters populating the book are unconvincing. and the dialogue not realistic - It`s hard to believe the reviewer is talking about the same book. The reviewer lists an example of absurd characterization: `At a certain moment there is a tremendous earthquake. Cities are destroyed, countless people killed. What do the main characters do after they have picked themselves up? They discuss what they are going to eat.` My comment on that is that anyone who has studied psychological reactions to disasters knows that the mind sometimes does strange things in the afterrmath - see `Mankind in Amnesia` by Immanuel Velikovsky, a great book about the psychology of disaster. Velikovsky was, by training, a psychoanalyst trained by a student of Freud, eminently qualifying him to discuss the possibility that our species has repressed the memories of earth-shaking events too terrible and frightening to acknowledge. The essence of Velikovsky`s research into modern catstrophies is that people tend to suppress the consciousness of those frightening events against which they feel helpless. So Redfinn was taken to task for his poor psychological understanding of the inner workings of the mind when actually he was correct in this case, portraying what frequently happens after earthquakes, tornados, etc to the human psyche.)

This is one of those books that, once you start reading, you don’t want to put it down - a real page-turner. Redfinn is a great writer able to keep the reader in suspense as the story’s mysterious circumstances deepen. The author puts a hook at the end of each chapter that leaves you wanting more as you come ever closer to finding out the horrifying secret behind the UFO Mystery. The only detractions are that, except for the hovering UFO, the cover image doesn’t seem to have much to do with the story and the title of the book could have been stronger and more relevant. But since those don’t really affect the story, I didn’t subtract a star.

The characters really come to life as the plot builds to its startling climax and surprise ending. When the UFO Aliens finally show themselves, on the surface everything starts to make sense. But then the reader learns the real secret behind THEM - and, let me tell you - it is much more terrifying than the typical Invasion From Space by Bug Eyed Monsters (BEM) Theme. If you liked the Movie CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND you will love this book, even though BEING makes that screenplay appear like a child’s pleasant fairy tale by comparison. Redfinn is a master at his craft. This book has my highest recommendation
