ZA UČENJE ENGLESKOG JEZIKA.
BILLY BUDD
This is the story of a young sailor and his experiences on an English warship at the end of the 1700`s. It is a time of wide-spread war... of famous fighting men... of daring acts.
Like the author`s famous sea story, Moby Dick, this book has the power to excite the reader`s mind and hold his interest every moment. But also, like Moby Dick, it is much more than a tale of adventure-
It looks into human character...into Right and Wrong. It seeks the truth in men`s thoughts and actions.
HERMAN MELVILLE
Herman Melville was born in New York City in 1819. At the age of 19 he went to sea on the trading ship `Highlander.` This was the first of many journeys that shaped his thoughts and writings.
Melville`s first book, Typee, tells of his experiences on the `Highlander.` Typee appeared in 1846 and was followed in the next years by several successful books describing his travels. Then Melville`s great Moby Dick appeared in 1851. His writing had become more serious; his next books were not well-received. Billy Budd, his last work, did not appear until 1924-33 years after his death.
In Melville`s lifetime, his successful books were accounts of real travels. Today his place among the world`s great writers is due to his deep and important thoughts on the human condition.
