Martin Erbstosser. The Crusades, English translation from the German by C. S. V. Salt. Pp. 212. (Newton Abbot: David & Charles, 1978.)

In his introduction Martin Erbstosser explains that he writes for the interested layman and so leaves aside all that is controversial and polemic. He brings to life the Mediterranean world in which the dramatic events of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries were enacted, and attempts to assess their consequences in readily appreciated examples.

The Crusades which lasted during two centuries saw tens of thousands of knights, as well as the peasants, merchants and artisans who accompanied them, invading the east. They were the instruments of a power struggle camouflaged with the trappings of holy church which had sought to precipitate the inevitable clash of opposing cultures.
For the west, the fruits of war were sweet and abundant. New and advanced agricultural techniques were as welcome back home, wherever that might be, as the newly discovered crops of fruits, vegetables and spices. The host of equally exotic luxuries for home and haute couture, not necessarily hitherto unknown, now found a wider market. But the most precious fruit was that of the mind. The advance in philosophy and science brought into being the first of the universities - to name but a few, Oxford, Paris, Bologna; and a concept of social demeanour - the ‘parfit gen til Knyght’. Of the influence due to contact with eastern Christianity, Erbstosser is silent, but is is only fair to comment that such evidence is the more readily found in the liturgical books of the time, a source too often neglected by the historian.

The book is most delightfully illustrated with line drawings throughout the text. These, together with the excellent selection of photographic material culled from the great dossier of the later Middle Ages, make this book a coveted possession with the promise of endless enjoyment.

LIČNO PREUZIMANJE:
Lično preuzimanje me deranžira i oduzima mi više vremena od slanja poštom.

Ako vam takve stvari smetaju, pitajte me pre kupovine da proverim.

KOMUNIKACIJA:
Komunikacija ide isključivo preko Kupindo poruka, ne telefonom. Budite normalni.

POPUSTI, CENKANJE I SL.:

MOJA PONUDA:
Nove knjige postavljam gotovo svaki dan. Možete ih pratiti na ovom linku http://www.limundo.com/Clan/ndi (pritisnite dugme `Prati`)

SUSEDNE ZEMLJE I INOSTRANSTVO:

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
I will send abroad. For your calculation, one hundred dinars roughly equals $1. Please register here:
