Edvard Dennis Goy, born 1926. University Lecturer in Slavonic Languages and Literatures at Cambridge University from 1954 to 1990, author of articles on Russian, Serbian and Croatian literatures published in the U.K., USA, Italy and former Yugoslavia. Has also translated a number of novels, stories and poetry including Bulatović`s The Red Cockerel (Crveni petao leti prema nebu), A Hero on a Donkey (Heroj na magarcu), Radomir Konstantinović`s Exitus (Izlazak) and, together with Dennis Ward, a selection of the poetry of Dragutin Tadijanović. Also translated Renaissance Petar Hektorović`s poetry Fishermen and Fisher-men`s Conversation (Ribanje i ribarsko prigovaranje) and Marin Držić`s play The Dream of Stanac (Novela od Stanca), both of which were published in the British Croatian Review. His translation of the Baroque epic poem Osman by Ivo Gudnulić was published by the Jugoslavenska akademija znanosti i umjetnosti in Zagreb. Recently he published A Green Pine (Zelen Bor), an anthology of love poems from the oral poetry of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aid of Vukova zadužbina in Beograd. He has published translations of Momčilo Nastasijević`s Five Lyrical Cycles (Pet lirskih krugova) in the Serbian Literary Quarterly, as well as a number of articles on Nastasijević`s poetry. In 1988 he was awarded a prize for his translations and work on literature by the Serbian P.E.N. Centre.
