Edward Dennis Goy (1926-2000) was a lecturer in Slavonic Studies at Cambridge University and taught mainly Serbian and Croatian Literature until his retirement in 1990. The range of the books he translated from Serbo-Croat is most impressive, covering modern, Renaissance and Baroque poetry, folk literature and contemporary fiction. In 1988 the Serbian P.E.N. Center awarded him a prize for his translations and work on literature. With his wife, Jasna Levinger, he translated Mesa Selimovic`s novel The Fortress (Northwestern University Press, 1999) and Miroslav Krleza`s Banquet in Blitva (Northwestern University Press, forthcoming 2004), and was translating Milos Crnjanski`s Novel about London at the time of his death.
