65833) DESCRIBING ENGLISH THROUGH THEORY & PRACTICE part two , Jelena Vujić , Philologia Beograd 2012 ,
This book is a logical sequence to Part I published last year. Even the layouts of the two parts are similar if not the same. While in the Part I the focus rests on English verb phrase, in this part the journey through the system of English grammar meanders through different forms and meanings of English noun phrases only to end with a description of English clauses and sentences, their many forms and functions.
The material presented in this book has been devised and revised through years of practice. It is designed to help users, who are primarily university students of
English and future language professionals, understand the patterns and principles that lie behind the structures in the English language. Its main goal is to show the students what is actually said in English rather than to prescribe what should be said. For that reason I tried to include some less formal expressions and usages of particular forms. The offered data are meant to be accessible, clear and precise. The focus lies on traditional structural grammar principles with insights from modern approaches. The exercises were designed and selected to motivate and stimulate students. The examples were chosen carefully. Their structure and vocabulary are modern and up-to-date with contemporary way of life.
